Monthly Update - August, 2020

When MapleGOOD started, on March 17th, we were generating daily updates. So much was going on - and things were moving quickly! Daily updates turned to weekly updates and they have now transitioned to monthly updates. Lots of time and effort goes into these updates - we know how important it is to keep our stakeholders aware of our activities - so we will put the work in at the end of each month to update everyone and remain transparent! Enjoy this update for August 2020.

Highlights:

• Launch of MapleGOOD’s brand new website: www.maplegood.org
• Launch of new program: Student & Family Support to provide programs, activities and resources free of cost to children living or attending schools in Maplewood and Richmond Heights. Please fill out the intake form to sign up your kids or sign up to volunteer: https://www.maplegood.org/sfs.html
• Launch of new group: Dino Dance MapleGOODers Sharing laughter 🤣, joy 😊 and silliness 🤪 this group was formed to bring fun to the community. 😍 To join the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1387957684742249/
• MapleGOOD’s open letter to the City of Maplewood in support of the mini-pantries received 319 signatures from community members in support of the mini-pantries in our community. You can find the open letter here: https://www.maplegood.org/updates/open-letter-maplewood-supporting-pantries

Events/Activities

• MapleGOOD - You Rock Group launched July 20th in Sutton Loop Park and the end date has extended to October 12th. Come see how long the caterpillar is!
• The weekend before, we will remove all the rocks at the park. We will then ask you all to help us hide them throughout Maplewood and beyond, where you live, work or play.

Homebound Help - Homebound Help provides support to neighbors who should not or cannot leave their homes as well as to those who are food insecure.

• 280 boxes of produce distributed in August thanks to Convoy of Hope for the produce and all the wonderful MapleGOOD volunteers for making calls and delivering
• 153 delivered to neighbors in Maplewood Richmond Heights
• 127 delivered to the Grab N Go Table
• Sign up to volunteer for the final 3 deliveries
• Grocery and medicine shopping and delivery is ongoing. Call MapleGOOD (314-301-9685) for assistance.

Arming Warriors - Arming Warriors consists of a buddy program for local healthcare workers, weekly hospital donations, providing meals to healthcare workers and special events to show our community’s support for their efforts and sacrifices.

• Goodies and supplies delivered to St John’s Hospital

Social Distance Support - Buddy support programs for seniors, and for neighbors wishing to connect with other neighbors during a time of social distancing.

• Version 1.0: 4 neighbors partnered
• Version 2.0: 10 elderly and differently-abled, homebound neighbors matched up with neighbors

Need for volunteer to step into lead role for SDS program to evaluate and develop the program. Message MapleGOOD if interested or have questions!

MapleGOOD Masks - The production and distribution of masks in the Maplewood and Richmond Heights community.

• 80 cloth masks donated to Richmond Height’s Homewood Suites where 33 families who have been displaced by fire are residing
• Mask Trees have distributed
  • 3,789 disposable masks
  • Masks donated by The Saint Louis County Department of Public Health

Mini-Pantries - Eight mini-food and -hygiene pantries are located throughout our community. They are stocked by the community on a regular basis and are accessible to everyone. “Take what you need, leave what you can.”

• 319 community members signed MapleGOOD’s open letter to the City of Maplewood in support of the mini-pantries
• Maplewood City Council are working on legislation, so that the mini-pantries on city property are within ordinances

• Mini-pantries are stocked by the community for the community. Every little bit helps! Feel free to drop off hygiene and non-perishable food items to any of the mini-pantries in our community. Perishable items and non-hygiene/food items can be donated to the Grab N Go Table
• August 22, Grab N Go Table hosted a Back to School event and distributed 65 boxes of produce, 250+ backpacks, lots of goodies, and 300 hotdogs and hamburgers
