Monthly Update - September, 2020

​Highlights:

• ​Meet MapleGOOD Mascot, Sophie! Read her story below.
• ​Winter Clothing & Food Drive organized by RHPD & MapleGOOD runs October 5 - November 30th
• Crossroads Presbyterian Fellowship has committed to supplementing the mini-pantries for the next six months with food and hygiene items!
• The 13-week Saturday produce deliveries ended in September, HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who made calls and deliveries throughout the summer

​Events/Activities

​MapleGOOD - You Rock Group launched July 20th in Sutton Loop Park and the end date has extended to October 12th. 

• We have been hiding the rocks throughout Maplewood and beyond!
• Visit the Facebook group for updates.

Dino Dance MapleGOODers  filmed their first feature film, in support of MapleGOOD’s Student & Family Support program. 

• On Wednesday, 10/21, at 6pm, they will be dancing in their first LIVE performance outside of St. Mary's Hospital!

Richmond Heights, MO Police Department & MapleGOOD will launch a Winter Clothing & Food Drive from October 5 to November 30th. Items can be dropped off at bins at THE HEIGHTS or at the RHPD. Porch pick-ups can also be arranged in MRH. 

Chalk art at Christ Church UCC to support the Alex Belongs Here campaign. Alex Garcia is our neighbor and has been living in Sanctuary at Christ Church UCC for the past 3 years. 

​Homebound Help

​​Homebound Help provides support to neighbors who should not or cannot leave their homes as well as to those who are food insecure.

• 204 boxes of produce distributed in August thanks to Convoy of Hope for the produce and all the wonderful MapleGOOD volunteers for making calls and delivering 
  • 102 delivered to neighbors in Maplewood Richmond Heights
  • 102 delivered to the Grab N Go Table
• MRH Senior, Davion, needed to find a temporary home for his pup, Sophie, so he could stay at Joe's Place to finish his last year of high school. A MapleGOOD family stepped up and are currently caring for Sophie Sunday to Friday.
  • Sophie’s had all her vaccines and will be getting spayed in October. Donations for Sophie’s vet bills can be sent to @MapleGOOD on Venmo
• Direct support included: helping a mom get birthday gifts for her kiddos; assisting an immigrant pay her bills; helping a mom get her car repaired
• Grocery and medicine shopping and delivery is ongoing.

Student & Family Support

• In an effort to support students and families during a time that has proven stressful for all, MapleGOOD is in the process of developing activities, projects and programs leveraging community resources. 
• Sign up your student to participate or yourself to volunteer
• Over 20 families signed up

​Arming Warriors

​Arming Warriors is buddy program for local healthcare workers, weekly hospital donations, providing meals to healthcare workers and special events to show our community’s support for their efforts and sacrifices.

​Social Distance Support

Buddy support programs for seniors, and for neighbors wishing to connect with other neighbors during a time of social distancing.

• Version 1.0: 4 neighbors partnered
• Version 2.0: 10 elderly and differently-abled, homebound neighbors matched up with neighbors
• New lead for SDS program started in September!

​MapleGOOD Mask Makers

The production and distribution of cloth & disposable masks in the Maplewood and Richmond Heights community.
In September:

• 2,055 disposable masks distributed at the Mask Trees 
  • Mask Trees can be found here.
• Masks donated by The Saint Louis County Department of Public Health

Thank you notes + candy left from the mask distribution at the bus stops.

Mini-Pantries​

Eight mini-food and hygiene pantries are located throughout our community. They are stocked by the community on a regular basis and are accessible to everyone. “Take what you need, leave what you can.”

• Mini-pantries are stocked by the community for the community. Every little bit helps! Feel free to drop off hygiene and non-perishable food items to any of the mini-pantries in our community. Perishable items and non-hygiene/food items can be donated to the Grab N Go Table.
• Crossroads Presbyterian Fellowship is helping supplement the mini-pantries with food and hygiene items for the next six months!!
• New Mini-Pantry Manager for the Kellogg Park Community Garden Mini-Pantry!! 

Since MapleGOOD started:

• Over 1,080 people joined MapleGOOD group on Facebook
• 80 neighbors donated a total of $9,812
• Neighbors & programs receiving financial support totaling $7,789.17
  • Groceries: $997.31
  • Medicines: $390.56
  • Projects: $4,884.83
  • Direct Assistance: $1,516.47
